Update

[Warded to Alice]
I promised to keep you updated, so here goes.

I've been with Frank all night and all morning. They're going to kick me out in a few hours to get some rest, but I can at least let you know what's going on. I mean, now that I can sit and write for a few minutes. Here's the layman's version - if you want the Healer's version, I can get more detailed.

- Dislocated shoulder - Fixed.
- Mild Concussion - "Fixed" he'll have headaches for awhile and need rest.
- Let's just say his intestines were chewed and we've done everything we could to regrow what was missing, and some we had to cut out ourselves to prevent infection. We'll need to do some reattaching later, but I promise I won't leave any gloves inside.
- Some damage to the liver, but we were able to prevent anything long-term.
- Lot of blood loss, we've got him on replenishers.
- You'll be able to play connect the dots in a few months with all of the bite and claw scars on his torso, but they're healing over nicely.

Still critical, so visiting is still incredibly limited. I'll keep up with reports for you. Hey, he's doing better and he'll recover. Just going to take some time and rest. We've got him heavily sedated to keep him asleep through the more painful processes - basically a medical coma, believe me he'd thank us for it. Just can't have him moving around and making things worse.

Lots of love, all right?

[Warded to the Order]
Frank got messed up pretty bad, luckily there's some amazing Healers around here - he'll pull through. I gave Alice an update, but the good news is that he's getting better instead of worse.

Will keep you all updated as long as the adrenaline is still keeping up on my feet.

[Warded to the Longbottoms]
Augusta, Charlie, Alice. Sorry to be doing this over a journal instead of in person, but this is the best I can do at the moment.

Frank's on the road to recovery and I'll let you know when he's awake and out of the critical wing if you want to visit. I won't lie, there was some extensive damage, but Frank's a resilient bloke. He'll be good as new before you know it.

Birthday

[Warded to St Mungo's Employees, and friends/family of Benjy Fenwick]
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. As some of you may know, our good friend and compatriot Healer Benjalomeau Schubert Jehoshaphat Fenwick is celebrating his 45th birthday today.

If you have time to drop by the Healer's lounge, I have set up a foos ball table (muggle game, I'll teach you to LOSE play) and the lovely Potionere Emmeline Vance and I have put together a fantastic cake for Healer Fenwick. You'll note we included ourselves on the cake for that personal touch.

So between rounds or on breaks, feel free to drop by and wish the old man well. Have a slice of cake! Maybe ice cream if it's within your dietary requirements. And sign his card.

Happy Birthday, Benjy!

I'm off on Saint Patrick's day. Who's getting me drunk tomorrow?

Stay Healthy

And now a word from your friendly neighbourhood Healer about weight loss and potions, since I'm hearing all the raves about this new Genie-Cal potion on the market.

Obesity often requires long-term treatment to promote and sustain weight loss. As in other chronic conditions, use of potions may be appropriate for some people. While most side effects of these potions are mild, serious complications can occur.

Keep in mind that these potions are not a cure-all for obesity. The use of weight loss potions should be combined with physical activity and improved diet to lose and maintain weight successfully over the long term.

Do I Need a Weight Loss potion?

Using weight loss potions to treat obesity should be used as an option for the following individuals:

1. People with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and above with no obesity-related conditions.
2. A person with a BMI of 27 and above with obesity-related conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

The Risks of Weight Loss potions

When considering weight loss potions for obesity, the following possible concerns and risks should be discussed with your Healer:

Addiction - Currently, all obesity potions except this new Genie-Cal are "controlled substances." This means that Healers are required to follow certain restrictions when prescribing them since they could be addictive.
Developed tolerance - Most people's weight tends to level off after taking a weight-loss potion. This leads to a concern that the person has developed a tolerance for the medication. However, it is unclear whether this leveling off is indeed due to a developed tolerance or if the potion has reached its limit in effectiveness.
Side effects - Most side effects of weight loss potions are mild (although some can be unpleasant) and usually improve as your body adjusts to the medication. These should be clearly printed on any product you try!

The Side Effects of Weight Loss potions

Most potions are used as a short-term treatment for obese people. Not only do the potions' effects tend to wear off after a few weeks, but they can also have some unpleasant side effects, including:
Increased heart rate
Increased blood pressure
Sweating
Constipation
Insomnia (inability to sleep or stay asleep)
Excessive thirst
Lightheadedness
Drowsiness
Stuffy nose
Headache
Anxiety
Dry mouth
Some side effects with Genie-Cal include abdominal cramping, passing gas, and the inability to control that little thing we call tact. These side effects are generally mild and temporary, but may be worsened by eating foods that are high in fat.

Because these potions are not recommended for long-term use, it is important for people who are trying to lose weight to learn new eating habits and to exercise while the potion is still effective. Once healthy eating and regular exercise have been learned and established, it is important to continue eating right and exercising if you hope to continue losing weight and keep lost weight from returning.

Weight loss potions are not for everybody. For example, there are limited studies on these potions' effects on older adults and on children.

Thanks for your time and consideration and remember, Doc loves you.

Heh.

It seems like every year there's rumours flying about that someone's using love potions at Hogwarts. Ah, teenage drama, how I've missed you. Oh. Context, you probably need that. There were a few trainees talking about people they knew in Hogwarts (years behind them, of course) had been hinting at love potions and NOW there's rumours that someone has and they're sure it's said person and oh gossip, gossip, gossip.

I've decided I can just use my wireless of the news. I don't need shows when I work at St. Mungo's.

Clean

[Warded to the Order]
Good news and bad news.

Good news first. These muggles are fine, physically. No signs of struggle, not even the merest bruise. They're completely healthy, though one of them may eventually develop a heart condition if he keeps eating fried foods.

The bad news is pretty bad. There's no one home. It looks like their minds have been completely wiped, down to the smallest bit of activity. I'm going to get them carted up to Mungo's for the Mind Healers, but I have to be honest-- it doesn't look good.

Ugh

[Warded to the Civil Air Patrol]
I don't mean to step on Eliza's toes, but I'm on call tonight and with all the weird crazies showing up on the journal network tonight, I'm thinking it'd be a good idea for us to be out in force this evening if at all possible.

Wales, now this... I'm thinking something big is coming. I'll be taking to the air tonight and I'd be honoured to have as many of you with me as we can get. I'd rather be in the air and preventing something than called in because something bad happened.

What the Doc Says.

One of the things I don't get a lot of over in A&E is people coming in feeling like they're coming down with a cold. Doesn't mean I don't see it fairly often, or hear the great Healers and Medis chatting about it. So if it's narrowed down to not being a magical malady, it's probably the flu.

Caradoc Dearborn's helpful advice for flu season (not floo, flue, or flew).

It's challenging, but I'm giving it to you anyway.

Wash your hands.

Seriously. A lot. As often as possible. Any time you touch something, especially around people who already have sniffles and sneezes. Wash the palms, the fingers, the backs of your hands, even your forearms isn't a bad idea.

It's not a be all, end all cure, but it's great for prevention. Exercising is also a great preventative, but I don't want to ask the lot of you to go jogging in the UK January mornings. Something to consider, though.

Preempt.

[Warded to Benjy and Mel]
Mel, I'm going to be working all night. I'd really appreciate it if you'd go over to my place and watch some television tonight. Empire Strikes Back is still in the player and it's a bloody good distraction.

You've probably gotten a ton of wards already with offers, but I can assure you my place is warded really well. I added you to the wards and Benjy knows I wouldn't put you at risk. And you can stay as long as you like.

Benjy, mate. Pardon the language, but fuck.
[End Ward]

The best advice I can give you is: Don't Panic.

Calm heads at the Ministry'll get this sorted out. Try not to get out there and cause accidents and emergencies in some mad rush, please?

Jan. 23rd, 2012

Vomit.

I'm just about to get off shift and I see two journal entries about vomit. It's one of those days, isn't it? Allow me to say that my day has been blessfully vomit-free. And before you ask, in regards to my entry a few days back, it has been poo-free as well. In fact, since I'm about to be off shift and am just winding down in the break area right now and unable to jinx myself at this point, I can also say I'm thankful that there have been relatively few accidents and emergencies today as well.

Knock on.. I guess this is wood. It may be something else entirely. Woodish. Though whatever kind of tree this was, it's been horrifically pulverised in order to be made into a relatively unstable table. I think I'll steal a sickle out of Benjy's locker to shore up this wobbly leg.

[Warded to Benjy, Frank, Alice, & Emmeline]
I spent all day thinking of codenames for everyone in the Order. I'll be doling them out at the meeting. Beware my creativity!

Added: Benjy, help me get some linen bandages, STAT.

Upside Down

I don't wish to alarm anyone, but I'm babysitting Neville a nephew of mine and I've got a few questions:
  1. Is Indian takeout bad for their digestion?
  2. Do parents get upset if you use sticking charms to hold a diaper on?
  3. Should you or should you not use their milk as cream for your [tea or coffee, drink of choice] if you're fresh out?
  4. Is green poo bad?
  5. Is black poo bad?
  6. Actually, what colours of poo should I be expecting as normal, here?
Okay, really, I know the answers to most of those. I'm a Healer, after all. But I do like to tease family.

Well, I smell poo again, so I'm cutting this short. Poo. Sorry, needed to write it a fifth time.

Out and About

[Warded to Alice and Frank (and Benjy and Emmeline, too!)]
Hey Alice! Your little tirade about working opposite shifts of your beardless hubby got me thinking... you guys don't get out much anymore. I think you two could use a break.

So what say I have a little word with Emmeline and see if I can't come up with a couple of polyjuice potions so you guys can have a little night out without being targets of the Morte Munchers? I'm thinking you two can go out disguised as me and Benjy.

That way if you decide to make out, no one will question it.

Okay, okay, me and Emmeline, maybe?
[End Ward]

Morte Munchers. Man, it's bad when you make yourself lau So. Lots of hubbub going on about the wireless today, so change of pace. I'm seriously in the mood for some flavoured hot cocoa. Anyone have a particular flavour they like best? I'm actually fond of just the regular deliciousness with some little marshmallows thrown in for taste. Call me old-fashioned, but give me that and maybe a roaring fireplace and I'm cozy for an evening.

001

[Warded to Frank and Alice]
Problem. Was I supposed to get your cousin a birthday gift, Frank? Is there a party, Alice? Because I didn't if the first question is yes, and I forgot if the second question is also yes.

She does have kind of a nice little butt and And I've had a busy schedule of keeping people upright (the preferred exit from Mungo's), so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
[End Ward]

Serious question. What colour and kind of underwear are you wearing, right now? Wait! I know it sounds perverted. Trust me. It's kind of like Divination. I'll tell you something about yourself based on your answer.
